“A client came to us after receiving an eviction notice from her housing following one month of unpaid rent. She had lost her job six months earlier and had first used her savings, then taken out a loan to cover daily expenses for herself and her daughter.
After reviewing her situation more closely, we were able to unlock her Employment Insurance, which allowed her to pay off part of her debts. She was then referred to our employment counsellor to improve her job search.
Through our partnership work, we accompanied her to Carnegie Outreach, who helped her find a new, more affordable place to live. We then supported her in organizing and funding her move.
While she works toward finding employment and regaining financial stability, we are supporting her through our food bank, community activities, and English classes. We have also connected her with Vancouver Family Services to set up a debt repayment plan.
Through these activities, she also met other French speakers and built strong connections. In turn, she now helps new participants feel welcome when they arrive at La Boussole.”
